Read on for a few ways that you might be damaging your smile — some of these are more obvious than others.

1.) Smoking

This is one of the obvious candidates that are bad for your oral health. Bad for your physical health as well, but we won’t get into that. The act of smoking stains your teeth and causes bad breath.

2.) Chewing on Your Nails

We all know biting your nails can do a number on your digits, but did you also know that it can be harmful to your smile. Those who bite their nails can cause their teeth to move out of place or damage the tooth as well as the enamel.

3.) Brushing Too Hard and for Too Long

Timing and technique are key when it comes to brushing your teeth. Make sure you wait 20-30 minutes for your mouth to neutralize acids and sugars after eating and drinking. When you brush, do so gently, and in a circular motion.

There are actually plenty more bad habits that you might be engaging in which are bad for your teeth. We’ll go over more in our next blog entry. Until then, contact Audubon Dental Center if you need help maintaining a healthy smile.
