Restore your tooth structure and reclaim your health

Strong teeth are crucial for long-lasting health. Yet tooth decay is a fact of life, no matter your age. Over time, the function, integrity, and form of a tooth’s structure can fall prey to cavities, chipping, and other forms of tooth damage.

Dental fillings repair cavities, restore cracked or broken teeth, and rebuild teeth worn down by misuse. You and your dentist will discuss the options for different types of fillings, lay out our doctors’ findings, and suggest treatment options for your unique dental situation.

At Audubon Dental Center of Clinton, we do all we can to help you make the best choice for your oral health. We’ll always make sure you understand our treatment recommendations fully so that you make the right choice for you and your family.

Long-lasting, safe, and effective fillings

Treating a cavity with a filling involves removing decayed tooth structure. This procedure is then followed by inserting a cavity filling that “fills” the hole in your teeth. This filling protects your tooth from further decay.

At Audubon Dental Center of Clinton, we offer white composite fillings. Made with glass particles, synthetic resin, and a setting ingredient, white fillings are natural-looking, durable, and free of any heavy metals such as mercury.

Answers to your questions about dental fillings

=

How do I know I need a filling?

Tell-tale signs of tooth decay—pain or sensitivity around the affected area — alerts you and your dentist to a cavity, a cracked tooth, or over-worn teeth. A cavity diagnosis may include tests such as visual assessments, palpation, and x-rays.

For very small cavities, we may simply recommend a wait-and-see approach. If the cavity is large and painful, or is located in a hard-to-reach area, a filling will be recommended.

=

How long do white composite fillings last?

Our dental fillings will last about three to ten years or longer.
=

How can I prevent cavities from forming?

Here are proactive steps you can take for your personal dental health:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day, for at least two minutes at a time
  • Floss at least once a day, preferably after meals
  • Eat a healthy diet, limiting sugary and acidic foods
